Tollywood Superstar Mahesh Babu’s most-awaited film Spyder released on Wednesday to mixed reactions from critics and fans. The spy-thriller set in Hyderabad managed to gross Rs 50 crore at the box office worldwide on its opening day. On the second day, the film has reportedly earned more than 20 crore taking its grand total to Rs 72 crore.
Spyder debuted at the US box office on Tuesday by collecting a whopping $1 million. According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the film raked in $ 1,005,630 (Rs 6.59 crore) from 236 locations on its first day. But the collection saw 87 percent drop on Wednesday as it earned only $131,655.
A report in Forbes suggested, “That’s the worst second-day drop for a wide-releasing Indian feature.”
“Of the dozen Indian pictures that opened wide on a Tuesday or Wednesday in recent years, SPYder’s second-day gross was the lowest. Only the Salman Khan action-adventure Ek Tha Tiger came even close with $136,056 on its second day, but that’s understandable as it played on only half as many screens as SPYder,” the report added.

However, the film is expected to cross $2 million mark at the US box office by end of its opening weekend.
Spyder is a Tamil-Telugu bilingual film, which is directed by ace-filmmaker AR Murugadoss at a cost of Rs 120 plus crore.
