Ever since team ‘Padmavati’ released the first look of Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor, they have been one of the most talked about celebrities on social media. Naturally, when Shahid decided to interact with his fans on a Facebook live chat, he was bombarded with requests to see Misha and questions about his upcoming film, ‘Padmavati’. The 36-year-old actor was unable to fulfil the first request, as his daughter was fast asleep, and although he clarified that he can’t talk much about his upcoming film due to various reasons, Shahid still shared his experience of working with Sanjay Leela Bhansali and playing a Rajput king.
“Sanjay Leela Bhansali is a genius. It is so difficult to explain the magic of working with him….working under him. I would rather say working under him and under his guidance. I think he is a master craftsman. I think his understanding of cinema and in-depth understanding of various aspects of cinema whether it’s music, the visuals, the drama, the emotions and the worlds that he discovers, I don’t think I have met a director like him. He has a plethora of talent within him. It’s been a magical journey. I feel very fortunate,” he said.
Playing a Rajput king has been one of the biggest challenges for the actor and most of all he hopes that he is able to impress his wife Mira Rajput. While talking about his various challenging roles, the actor said,” ‘Haider’, ‘Udta Punjab’ and ‘Padmavati’ were three of my toughest films and most challenging films to shoot, with the most exciting roles to play. I think Maharawal Ratan Singh is a character who is fantastic, it is difficult to explain in words. I feel it is premature to start talking about my character in the film, but I feel privileged to play a Rajput king, to be representing the culture of Chittor. I really can’t wait for the film to release,” he said.
Padmavati marks Shahid Kapoor’s first collaboration with Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh. The actor has been undergoing rigorous training to bring more appeal to his on-screen character.
